In the trope surrounding unplanned pregnancies, two nakshatras appear with striking frequency among the actresses portraying women who unexpectedly become pregnant: Mrigashira (23°20′ Taurus - 6°40′ Gemini) and Uttara Phalguni (26°40′ Leo - 10°00′ Virgo). Across films and television, these two nakshatras repeatedly emerge through the Sun, Moon, or Ascendant of actresses taking on such roles.

What makes the pattern particularly interesting is that the pregnancies themselves do not serve the same narrative function in every story. The circumstances surrounding the pregnancy, the woman's relationship to it, and the way it alters the course of the story can differ considerably. Yet when the examples are examined through the lens of these two nakshatras, distinct patterns begin to emerge.

These two nakshatras appear within the same broad unplanned pregnancy trope, but they represent two distinct versions of it. The circumstances surrounding the pregnancy, the woman's relationship to it, and the way it affects her relationships, choices, and circumstances differ between the two. I have therefore examined Mrigashira and Uttara Phalguni separately, looking at how each nakshatra shapes a different type of unplanned pregnancy narrative.
